The Brief

Conor McNally approached us with the concept of an application that would teach amateurs how to make videos like a pro,. Not only would it give them valuable and structured tutorials, but it would also allow them to edit their videos in a web browser.

Our Thinking

We knew that it would be difficult to give strict directions to users on how to use their cameras, if they were not looking at the tutorials while actually shooting the videos, so early on we shifted the focus from how they were filming to what they were filming. The mantra “Content is King” was heard a lot around the office back then. From this grew the need for a structure of telling stories that people just needed to follow to make a great video. The Story Arc was crucial for this, and represents the sequence of events and their emotional impact to keep a story interesting and complete.

What we did

We developed a community based CMS using the Drupal platform, which allowed us to fully build in Facebook Connect. The application for uploading and editing videos was developed in Flash and was created using the open source video editor Kaltura. We produced a Marketing video, a How-To video, and seven Tutorials videos for the Shotclip Wedding storyboard. Shotclip can facilitate a multitude of storyboards, and is looking at other areas that could be use its service. Results

Shotclip is currently in Beta mode, we are doing a lot of user testing to make it the best it can be. It is getting great feedback from the public, a lot of interest from investors and discussing some B2B business opportunities. Please have a look and send on any comments that you might have.
