Ogilvy1 approached us about producing some high quality banner ads to drive traffic to the website of their client, the HSE. They wanted to convert art work created by their illustrator into the restrictive format of an online banner ad, while also introducing animation and motion graphics to give the images a ‘second life’.
We had to be very flexible in our approach as the online images were restricted to 60kb and the original files were over 100 MB. The artwork style was inspired by Lichtensteins' Pop art, and so lent itself to a narrative very well. We needed to extend on this and create interesting transitions between each scene.
To maintain the clean graphic style of the Pop art illustrations, we decided not to use traditional compression techniques. Instead we worked on reproducing these images as ‘vector graphics’ that were perfect for the size-restrictive format. We then created each layer as separate graphics so that we could animate these independently.
The ads looked great and out-performed their initial traffic generation goals. They also came well within their required file sizes.
"“The illustration and animation skills were exceptional. Taking our campaigns from basic scamps to develop rich and powerful online advertising campaigns.” Allen Kiely, Ogilvy1"
