We were approached by Ballywire media to direct and shoot the title sequence for their new online show ‘Gameball’. They also asked us to develop the logo and branding for the show. Their main target audience was a young one, so they were planning to show plenty of GAA content, in a fresh, modern setting.
It seemed to us that the GAA was often presented in a very stagnant and dated way. Most of the existing design work had been created for a much older audience. To really harness the strengths of the GAA brand, we wanted to feature elements of its tradition and history, but in an updated way.
We created a very colourful brand title sequence for Gameball, using huge waves of colour seen shooting through Dublin. The piece starts off in some of the oldest areas of the city and works its way through to the most modern, and finally into Croke Park, home of the GAA. To properly frame the content of the show, we had the show’s presenter Aoife doing a bit of hurling in some of the shots. She really represented the target market, so could easily connect with them while introducing a note of playfulness.
The client was delighted with the results, which came in ahead of time and on budget. The ‘ident’ was used for the entire season and was viewed by thousands of people online.
